All I can say is that I'm glad I wasn't there for the 8 wound versus 5 wound debate. I might have gone insane. ;)

It is important to note that you're giving some disinformation about the Winter Troll. You seem to be in good company, as a lot of people are making the same mistake.

While the ability Rime is CALLED the same thing, it does something very different. The old Rime worked as you said. You get hit, and after the hit is resolved, the model is now stationary. Nothing can 1 shot the winter troll. They have now changed it so that when you hit the winter troll, you become stationary AT THE END OF YOUR ACTIVATION. This is a very important difference, as anything that actually wants to kill the winter can simply keep attacking until it is dead.

The Winter Troll is no longer good for roadblocks. Given the wording change, I'm no longer actually sure he's worth the points, and it seems that the only reason people are happy with him is because of an incorrect assumption.

"Rime - If this model is hit by a melee attack, the attacking model becomes stationary for one round at the end of the attacking modelʼs activation unless the attacking model has Immunity: Cold ICON or this model was destroyed or removed from play by the attack."

The Winter Troll is still solid, imo. Rime is still a good ability, the animus is solid, and it's one of the few models in the Troll army with a semi-reliable spray attack. Spray attacks are so much more valuable in Mk II. That's not to say that there aren't better options for beasts, I just don't think he's complete jank either.

For the animus alone he's worth his points. Agreed that Rime has changed a bit but if you don't one shot kill him with an attack your still stationary at the end of your activation. The way the rule works if you make one attack on him and don't kill him with that attack Rime will kick in at the end of the models activation even if more attacks were used to finish him off. Of late my top four choices have been Axer, Impailer, Pyre, then Winter with the majority of my warlocks. Provided I want to run that many beasts.

Good episode guys. I've got to go with flanzer on the 8 wound debate. Here's my reasoning. Troll Cav, IIRC, has the lowest speed and lowest def. I know Dave was saying this was offset by their ability to slam. IMHO though, all Cav have some special ability to the ability to slam is there to just offset the other abilities heavy Cav have. For instance the IFU have defensive line Making them more like ARM 19), combat rider, relentless charge, and crit knockdown. The Stormlances have electro leap, assualt, brutual charge, and immunity to electricity. Vengers have blessed, magical lances, weapon master swords, and battle driven. All of those cav have a base spd 8 def 12 and arm 17.

On the other hand you have Trollkin Cav with spd 7 but otherwise the same stats. They have fearless, tough, brace for impact, brutal charge, crit knockdown, and bull rush. My point is 1.) All the heavy cav have an impressive set of abilities at their disposal. 2.) The trolls are the slowest. Which IMHO is a bit more of a detriment than one might consider since Cav is more of a flanking unit anymore. 3.) The aforementioned WM heavy Cav can all boast arm of 19 plus fairly easily. 2 of those units can do so with their own abilities. Trolls do not have access to any of those arm buffs.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Really enjoyed the episode.
